57 Macomb area mailboxes vandalized, stolen

Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputies are investigating 57 cases of mailbox vandalism or theft that occurred over the weekend in the Macomb area.Several area residents made reports to deputies and a complete list also was given to the sheriff’s office by the Macomb postmaster. According to the deputy’s report, all of the incidents occurred between late Friday night and early Saturday morning. A total of 57 mailboxes were either hit, smashed or stolen, according to the report.  Incidents occurred along several Pottawatomie County roads, including Leo Road, Gaddy Road, Jude and Jody Road, Bethel Road, Prospect Road, Trousdale Road, Patterson Road, Rattlesnake Hill Road, SH 59B, Okay Road and Anderson Road.  There are no identified suspects, but Sheriff’s Capt. Travis Palmer said they are following several leads in the case.
With each mailbox valued at $75, the offenders could face restitution charges up to $4,200 along with any criminal charges filed.  Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office, 273-1727
