Deputies arrest five burglary suspects

Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputies arrested five suspects Thursday shortly after a residential burglary. Sheriff Mike Booth said Deputy Chad Pope made a traffic stop of an alleged suspect vehicle, which led to recovery of stolen property and the arrests.

Alleged shooter faces drug charges

The homeowner who allegedly shot and killed a man who knocked on his door and came inside his home during an altercation last month now faces felony drug charges for items found at his home while deputies investigated the shooting. The district attorney hasn’t yet determined whether the shooting was justified as part of Oklahoma’s “Make My Day” law. Thomas Marion Lillard III, 30, is charged in Pottawatomie County District Court with unlawful possession of a controlled drug within intent to distribute, acquiring proceeds from drug activity, possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and a misdemeanor of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Woman surrenders to deputies after threatening suicide, pointing weapon at them

Six Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputies kept a level head and held their fire when a Pink woman who had been threatening suicide pointed a weapon at them earlier this week. After negotiations, the woman surrendered and dropped the weapon, which looked like a 9 mm black pistol, but was actually a BB gun. Capt. Travis Palmer said the woman, whose name is not being released, called 911 and said she was armed with a 9 mm pistol and was going to kill herself.

Shawnee PD/Pottawatomie County Sheriff Partner on Grant Submission

The Shawnee Police Department is applying for a 2009 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant along with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office. The Shawnee Police Department is seeking equipment to enhance public safety such as radar devices and road spikes and looking to purchase equipment for officer safety such as M-4 rifles, walkie talkie mics and an additional 14 tasers.

Methamphetamine arrests keep authorities busy

Six people were arrested Saturday night after sheriff’s deputies went to a Shawnee home to serve a felony arrest warrant and ended up finding about 25 grams of methamphetamine. In a separate case the same night, Shawnee police officers arrested a suspect after finding a meth lab at another Shawnee home.

Shotgun, plumbers putty mishap injures McLoud man

A McLoud man suffered an accidental gunshot wound to his abdomen Thursday night when he fired a shotgun shell filled with plumbers putty into his stomach. Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Capt. Travis Palmer said the man, age 21, told deputies he took the BB pellets out of a shotgun shell and replaced them with plumbers putty to make a different bullet. From there, Palmer said the man test fired several rounds on items outside and they did pretty good. “He decided to see what it would do to himself if he put a pillow between him and the gun,” Palmer said. The man allegedly shot at himself without a problem, so Palmer said he tried the experiment without the pillow.
