Local officers attend hostage negotiation training

Recently, four law enforcement officer from Pottawatomie County attended a hostage negotiator class in Norman. The class was hosted by the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Police. Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe McGirt and Tecumseh Police Lt. J.R. Kidney were invited by the Tribe to attended the 40-hour class at no cost to their police departments. Absenttee Officers Scott Wilson and J.P. Neely attended as well. Retired detective Dominick Misino, a 22-year veteran and hostage negotiator with NYPD, was instructor of the course through the International Association of Hostage Negotiators (IAHN). Through the event, Kidney became the Oklahoma state associate director for IAHN and the others became Oklahoma state representatives The local officers are putting a team together of all the negotiators in Pottawatomie County and plan to start training together as a crisis intervention team.
